The COMPANY of PLAYERS Youth Group is open to anyone between the ages of 11 and 18. Membership is not limited to the children of members, so if you have any young friends who are interested please encourage them to join.

Sessions take place every Sunday from 10am-12pm at The Little Theatre. Each week we cover topics such as stage fighting, movement, improvisation, as well as playing drama games and having a lot of fun.

CoPs Youth Group is an ideal way for young people to get more involved with our theatre, by working on youth group productions, and, as they grow more experienced, taking parts and working backstage on our full productions. Many of our current adult acting talent has come up through our Youth Group.

We hold most of the sessions in the Little Theatre - access to a fully working theatre introduces members to all aspects of what drama involves, unlike many of the other local groups. During productions we use the Bengeo Scout Hut and take advantage of the bigger space to do more physical activities such as sword fighting.

We also aim to do one Youth Group production per year.

In 2003 we presented Are You Sitting Comfortably, which was devised in-house and based on the tales of the Brothers Grimm. We have also, in the past performed at a number of events including the Ware Town Twinning Festival and our own Youth group BBQ last summer.

This year we performed Bawdy Body, both at The Little Theatre and at Welwyn Youth Drama Festival.

Next Production

Our next Youth Group production is Animal Farm, adapted for the stage by Ian Woolridge and directed by Karen Janes. The play will be presented from 12th-14th December 2007. This new dramatisation of Orwell's enduring parable on the perils of totalitarianism remains extremely faithful to the original, retaining both its affection for the animals and the incisiveness of its message. This allegorical fairy story re-told by our talented Youth Group will be a great way to start the Festive Season!

Want to join?

We currently have some room for more members - so if you know of anyone who might be interested in coming along, let us know. As we are a non-profit making organisation we only charge a minimal fee per term to cover incidental expenses. Please contact us or call Betty Janes on 01920 462168.
