The COMPANY of PLAYERS

Hertford Theatre Week 2003 Winners

Presentation to director Barry LeeThe Company of Players are regular performers at Hertford Theatre Week and in 2003 took our production of Peggy For You to the festival, winning the competition's main prize, The Mercury Challenge Cup, together with the Audience Appreciation Award and the Roy Seaman Award for stage presentation.

Theatre Week has been an annual event in the town's calendar since 1962. Six amateur drama companies compete for five prizes, including the Mercury Challenge Cup and the Ted Harden Rose Bowl.

This year's competition featured groups from Hertford, Welwyn Garden City, Hoddesdon, Cuffley and Brentwood, each having a day to construct their set, master the technical facilities and perform in the evening.

The Company have previously won the event on two occasions, most recently in 1996, and have been runners-up eight times. In Theatre Week 2002 our production of The Memory Of Water by Shelagh Stephenson came second overall in the competition.
