Florence Nightingale

The story of Florence Nightingale's life is told in the form of a rehearsal of a play to be performed at a later time. It passes from her youth, through the famous, but brief, period of the Lady With the Lamp, and her many activities afterwards until, at the close of her long life, she is presented with the Order of Merit.

John Bowen was born in Calcutta, India on 5th November 1924 and went on to read history at Oxford. He began his writing life as a novelist, ws recruited to television drama and then began writing for the stage. His plays have been produced all ove Europe as well as in the USA, Canada and Australia.

This is Paul Morton's debut as a director for The Company. Since joining The Company five years ago he has become one of the most prolific of performers, appearing in 12 productions in five years.
